Message From HM The Queen

The Presiding Officer wrote to HM The Queen on 17 May conveying the terms of the motion on the Golden Jubilee agreed by the Parliament and has received the following reply from Her Majesty:

Prince Philip and I have been deeply touched by the many kind messages about the Golden Jubilee.

This anniversary is for us an occasion to acknowledge with gratitude the loyalty and support which we have received from so many people since I came to the Throne in 1952. It is especially an opportunity to thank all those of you who help others in your own local communities through public or voluntary service. I would like to think that your work will be particularly recognised during this Jubilee year.

I hope also that this time of celebration in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth will not simply be an occasion to be nostalgic about the past. I believe that, young or old, we have as much to look forward to with confidence and hope as we have to look back on with pride.

I send you my warmest good wishes to you all.

Land Reform (Scotland) Bill

The Justice 2 Committee will begin Stage 2 consideration of the above Bill on Tuesday 25 June. The last day on which amendments may be lodged from the first Marshalled List is therefore Friday 21 June. Amendments may be lodged until
4.30 pm on any sitting day, except on the last day when amendments may be lodged, when the deadline is 2.00 pm (Rule 9.10.2). Members are advised to lodge amendments in good time before the beginning of the Stage, and as early as possible during the day.

Amendments should be lodged with the clerks to the Committee, Gillian Baxendine, Clerk to the Justice 2 Committee (Room 3.09 Committee Chambers, extn. 85054), Fiona Groves, Senior Assistant Clerk (Room 3.10, extn. 85220) or Richard Hough, Assistant Clerk (Room 3.10, extn. 85047). The clerks should be consulted about the wording and admissibility of amendments.

The Committee will not proceed beyond the end of Part 1 of the Bill on the first day. (If the Committee does not reach the end of Part 1, it will begin on the second day at the point where it left off.) Similar targets for subsequent days will be announced in due course.
