Petition by Tina McGeever, on behalf of Mike Gray, calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to consider the provision, on the NHS, of cancer treatment drugs, in particular cetuximab, to ensure equity across NHS boards on the appropriateness, effectiveness and availability of such treatments.

Further consideration of this petition has been taken forward through an inquiry (Link to inquiry page). The report of that inquiry has been published (Link to report). The response to that report from the Scottish Government has been received (Link to the response). The report and the issues arising from the petition were debated in the Parliament on 1 October 2008 (Link to debate)  

15 January 2008 :   The Committee agreed to seek responses to the issues raised in the petition from Scottish Government, Scottish Medicines Consortium, Bowel Cancer UK, NHS Grampian, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Radiologists. The Committee also agreed to contact the Health and Sport Committee inviting it to consider undertaking an inquiry into the issues raised in the petition. Link to Official Report 15 January 2008 

19 February 2008 :   The Committee agreed to take forward the issues raised in the petition through an inquiry, which would gather evidence from the Scottish Government and all NHS Health Boards. Link to Official Report 19 February 2008 

18 November 2008 :   The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government seeking a response to the specific points raised during the meeting. It also agreed to seek the views of those who gave oral evidence to the inquiry on the Scottish Government’s Better Cancer Care, An Action Plan.
