Irish Trade Union Congress

A delegation from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, accompanied by Bill Speirs, Deputy General Secretary of the Scottish Trade Union Congress (STUC) will visit the Scottish Parliament. The delegation are members of Initiative, which is aimed at encouraging young protestants in the North of Ireland to engage with political and civil society in a democratic and constructive way. The programme includes a presentation on "The Scottish Parliament and Devolution", a meeting with Iain Smith MSP (member of the British-Irish Interparliamentary Body) to discuss sectarian division and equality and a meeting with Sandra White MSP of the Public Petitions' Committee to receive an overview of the work of the Committee.

The Clerk, Arthur Moir and the Deputy Clerk, Joe Reynolds of the Northern Ireland Assembly will visit the Scottish Parliament to meet with the Chief Executive and Directors to discuss such areas of mutual interest as performance targets, standards of service, security clearance and budget plans

5 to 6 February Officials from Northern Ireland Assembly Norman Irwin, Head of Assembly Section, Department of Finance and Personnel, to visit with staff to find out how their areas of work are carried out in the Scottish Executive

17 April Visit by Lord Alderdice Reciprocal visit arranged between Sir David Steel and Lord Alderdice. Meetings with Carol Devon and Alan Smart. Official lunch and tour
12 November Officials from Northern Ireland Assembly Greg McConnell, Chief Operating Officer, Review of Public Administration, and Tom Frawley, Northern Ireland Ombudsman, to meet officials and learn more about devolution
