01.11.04 Osaka Prefectural Assembly delegation Japan Visit to the Scottish Parliament to look at how the parliament operates and devolution first hand. Presentation on the Scottish Parliament and tour of the new building. 1
01.11.04 - 07.11.04 National Assembly of Quebec Canada 3 or 4 day visit of a cross-party delegation from the National Assembly of Quebec, made up of 4 members and a secretary. The visit would include bi-lateral meetings on a number of issues with MSPs. There would also be a cultural programme which would take them outwith Edinburgh. 7
02.11.04 Chamber of Control of Georgia Georgia To meet with Members of the Audit Committee to share and discuss information which will support the Georgian Supreme Audit Institution. 1
04.11.04 Michael Ahern, T.D. Ireland Irish Minister for Trade & Commerce, Michael Ahern T.D. and party visited the Parliament for a tour of the building. 1
05.11.04 Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes Germany The Presiding Officer will give the Opening Speech at the Annual Meeting of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German National Academic Foundation) in the Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh. The German National Academic Foundation enables a small group of highly gifted students from all fields of learning to pursue their studies free from financial need and the aim of the Annual Meeting is to bring together the 150 German scholars who are currently studying in the UK and Ireland 1
05.11.04 The Swedish Parliament

A delegation of Civil Servants from the Personal Association of the Swedish Parliament will visit the Scottish Parliament to meet with counterparts and receive an overview of the structure of the Scottish Parliament. The delegation expressed a specific interest in the Committee system, Information Services and Security and relevant meetings have been organised. In addition, the External Liaison Unit will give the delegation a presentation on The Scottish Parliament and Devolution. Edinburgh was chosen for the 2004 Annual Meeting and the scholars will receive a tour of the Scottish Parliament on Saturday 6 November. 1
05.11.04 Mr Alvaro Gil-Robles Council of Europe Mr Alvaro Gil-Robles, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe will visit the Scottish Parliament as part of his visit to Scotland and organised by the Scottish Executive to discuss the issue of Human Rights. Mr Gils-Robles has conducted 27 visits to member states of the Council of Europe to promote effective respect for human rights. The purpose of the visits is to obtain an objective and first hand understanding of the salient human rights concerns in each country and to suggest improvements of a constructive dialogue with the government. The Commissioner's visit to the Parliament will include a courtesy call with the Presiding Officer and a meeting with both MSP Members and Non MSP Members of the cross-party group on Human Rights. 1
08.11.04 British Irish Council BIIPB Ministers and officials from the British Irish Council (Wales, Ireland , Northern Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey , Isle of Man and England) will visit the Scottish Parliament as part of their visit to Scotland . 1
10.11.04 Kenny Dalglish/ McDonald's Restaurant United Kingdom McDonald's group, fronted by Kenny Dalglish will take part in a photo call to celebrate the Scottish Parliament winning their competition in connection with the Scottish Youth Football. The group will also observe proceedings in the Chamber with Kenny Dalglish meeting a DPO. 1
15.11.04 Japanese Consul General Japan The new Japanese Consul General Mr Takahashi will pay a courtesy call to the Scottish Parliament 1
15.11.04 The Hon Shaun Byneveldt South Africa The Hon Shaun Byneveldt, Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament will meet with officials and Members to discuss a wide range of Parliament related topics. 2

The British Irish Interparliamentary Body's Committee D the Environmental and Health Committee will visit the Scottish Parliament/Edinburgh as part of their enquiry into Special Needs Education. The visit will include a meeting with Members, as well as Scottish Executive officials to discuss the situation in Scotland . It also includes a visit to Drummond Community High School in Edinburgh . 1
17.11.04 Foreign & Commonwealth Officials United Kingdom FCO officials from the Sponsored Activities Group will visit the Parliament, receive tour and observe First Minister's Question time. 1

Ms Shanaz Ahmad Rashid and Hawar Rasoul

Ms Shanaz Ahmad Rashid, Head of European Foreign Relations for Kurdistan and Hawar Rasoul, the UK representative of Kurdistan will visit the Scottish Parliament to meet with Members/Officials to brief them on Kurdistan and Iraq . This will include the General Election in both Iraqi and Kurdistan , the Iraqi Constitution and the building of a federal system in Iraq . The delegation will also receive an overview of the Scottish Parliament. 1
18.11.04 National Assembly of Wales Wales The Local Government and Public Services Committee of the National Assembly of Wales will visit the Scottish Parliament for a series of meetings. The Committee members include Sue Essex, the Welsh Minister for Local Government. 1

The Clerk, Arthur Moir and the Deputy Clerk, Joe Reynolds of the Northern Ireland Assembly will visit the Scottish Parliament to meet with the Chief Executive and Directors to discuss such areas of mutual interest as performance targets, standards of service, security clearance and budget plans 1
18.11.04 Ms Buyelwa Sonjika South Africa Ms Buyelwa Sonjika, Minister for Water Affairs & Forestry, South Africa will visit the Parliament as part of the UK Trade & Investment funded project. 1
18.11.04 St Andrew's Day Dinner USA The Presiding Officer will speak at the annual St Andrew's Day dinner in New York. 3

25.11.04 - 26.11.04 NORPEC   The Presiding Officer will host a dinner on 25 November during the NORPEC seminar organised by the Europe and External Relations Committee. 2
25.11.04 Icelandic Ambassador

The Icelandic Ambassador and representatives of the West Nordic Council will visit the Scottish Parliament to meet with officials to discuss potential links between the Scottish Parliament and the West Nordic Council. The delegation will also meet with the Presiding Officer for a courtesy call and receive a tour of the Parliament. 1
28.11.04 REGLEG RECEPTION   The Presiding Office, George Reid MSP and the First Minister, the Rt Hon Jack McConnell MSP, jointly hosted a Reception in the Scottish Parliament for attendees at the 5th Annual REGLEG Conference. As the President of REGLEG for the current year (2003 to 2004), the First Minister hosted the actual Conference in Edinburgh on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 November.
