01.04.05 Tartan Day 2005 United States / Canada The Presiding Officer will lead a cross-party delegation of 5 MSPs (George Lyon MSP, Margo MacDonald MSP, David McLetchie MSP, Nicola Sturgeon MSP and Karen Whitefield MSP) to participate in the events being organised in New York , Boston and Washington DC as part of Tartan Day 2005. While in north America the Presiding Officer and delegation will also visit the National Assembly of Quebec as guests of the President of the National Assembly. More details to follow. 7
10.04.05 CPA International Executive Committee Australia A Member of the Scotland Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association will attend the 5-day meeting of the CPA's International Executive Committee in New South Wales , Australia . All costs associated with their attendance are met by the CPA centrally. More details to follow. 5
11.04.05 - 13.04.05 East Africa Community Africa A delegation led by the Secretary General of the East Africa Community, Hon. Amanya Mushega will visit the Parliament to raise the profile of the regions trade and investment. 3
13.04.05 Ukraine Ambassador Ukraine The Ukraine Ambassador will visit the Scottish Parliament to participate in a meeting of the International Development Group. In addition to this, the Ambassador will meet with the Presiding Officer for a courtesy call. 1
20.04.05 The Standing Committee of Business and Industry, The Storting Norway A delegation of Parliamentarians from the Standing Committee of Business and Industry in the Storting will visit the Scottish Parliament whilst on a study visit to Scotland on 19-21 April. The study visit is related to the Standing Committee's consideration of a recent Norwegian Government report focussing on sea fisheries, aquaculture and the development of the marine sector. In learning of Scotland's experience, the delegation will meet with Members of the Environment and Rural Development Committee. In addition to the Parliament visit, the delegation will also meet with the Scottish Executive and external organisations. 1
18.04.05 - 24.04.05 3rd Commonwealth Youth Parliament Australia The 3rd Commonwealth Youth Parliament will be held in Brisbane, Queensland , Australia . Following a sift of applications and a Commonwealth debate on Wednesday 12 January 2005 the Executive Committee agreed that Alex Just and Anna Crosby should represent Scotland and the Scotland Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association at this Youth Parliament. Over 100 delegates from across the Commonwealth will attend and participate in the 3rd Youth Parliament. 5
26.04.05 South African Ministry of Water and Forestry Affairs South Africa South African Minister of Water Affairs Ms Buyelwa Sonjica will visit Scottish Waters and meet with a Scottish Executive Minister counterpart and Parliament Members. 1
26.4.05 European Relations Committee, Mecklenburg Vorpommern Germany A delegation of Parliamentarians and officials from the European Relations Committee of the Parliament of Mecklenburg Vorpommern will visit the Scottish Parliament to meet with other Members and officials to discuss EU Legislation and Policy, the Scottish legal system - including crime reduction, re-conviction rates and young offenders. The Committee will also discuss sustained growth and the common agriculture policy with Members. (Visit to be confirmed) 2
