Encounter Conference

An Encounter Conference will be held in the Scottish Parliament on the topic of Youth Enterprise. 120 young people between the ages of 20 and 30 will travel from across the UK and Ireland to discuss the central theme of young people setting up and developing their own business. The Conference will address the different stages involved but most importantly the ethics of business in dealing with employees, creditors, debtors and the concerns of society at large.

4th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Canadian Seminar

One Member from the Scotland Branch will attend the 4th CPA Canadian Parliamentary Seminar - ' Strengthening Democracy and the Role of Parliamentarians: Challenges and Solutions' - if the Branch is successful in securing a place at the Seminar. The Seminar held in Ottawa, will be organised by the Canada Branch of the CPA but is funded jointly by the Branch and the CPA Headquarters. This Seminar is viewed as an excellent complement to the existing professional development programmes for parliamentarians and as a tool for strengthening democracy. Canada has developed considerable expertise in parliamentary practices and sound public management and through this Seminar wishes to share experiences. The Seminar will also provide another ideal opportunity for the Scottish delegates to inform other Commonwealth parliamentarians about the Scottish Parliament and the devolution process. A Notice was sent to all Members asking for nominations on Wednesday 25 May - closing date Wednesday 8 June.

The European Economic and Social Committee will meet in the Scottish Parliament with a meeting of the EESC Bureau (36 people) in the morning followed that afternoon by an EESC public debate involving MSPs, Scottish civil society and others on 'Active citizenship and the role of civil society'. To be confirmed.

The Commission for Economic and Social Policy (ECOS) of the Committee of the Region (CoR) will meet in the Scottish Parliament with a meeting of the Commission in the morning followed that afternoon by an ECOS public debate involving MSPs, Scottish civil society and others on the Commission's Opinion on 'Restructuring and Employment'. To be confirmed.

The Deputy Presiding Officer, Trish Godman MSP, will host a Reception in the European Parliament, Brussels, in celebration of Scotland Week.

28/11/2005 British Irish Interparliamentary Body Scotland

The 31st Plenary of the British Irish Interparliamentary Body will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland from Sunday 27 to Tuesday 29 November 2005. All Parliamentarians from each of the Parliaments who are Members of the Body will visit the Scottish Parliament on the evening of Monday 28 November for a formal dinner
