Involving our Stakeholders
We took a number of key stakeholders into account when we were preparing the Scheme. Including MSPs and their staff, SPCB staff, service users and visitors to the building.
We were particularly interested in involving disabled people who have an interest in the way we carry out our functions and services. Involving disabled people helped us to identify the barriers faced by disabled people, assisted us in our planning activity and helped us set our key priorities for action.
There were a number of ways in which we involved our stakeholders:
Disability Equality Group
The aim of this group was to oversee the development of the Scheme and to be influential in deciding how priorities were set for achieving greater equality for disabled people. The group comprised of disabled people and individuals from disability organisations who have shown an active interest in the activities of the Parliament and members of staff who were disabled or had an interest in disability issues. The Group reviewed the Parliament’s progress on disability, identified barriers which exist for disabled people and agreed a way forward for the Parliament to promote disability equality.
Discussion Forum for Members and Members Staff
A lunchtime discussion forum for Members and their staff took place in the Parliament building in September 2006. This was an opportunity for Members and Members staff to express their views and opinions about the Parliament’s progress on promoting disability equality. These views and comments were considered by the Disability Equality Group.
Online Chat Forum (open to all stakeholders)
An online chat forum was available on this webpage between July and October 2006 to enable all stakeholders to give their views. All relevant information received through this forum was considered by the Disability Equality Group.
