On 10 and 11 September 2007 I visited Brussels. This trip was a familiarisation visit for members of the European and External Relations Committee organised and paid for by the European Commission. The estimated cost of the flights, meals and accommodation was £456 (Hotel 170euros; Flights 440euros; Dinner 27euros; lunch 25euros) which was met by the European Commission. Between 17 and 22 November 2007 I visited Sierra Leone as one of four cross party UK Parliamentarians who led a workshop on ‘Working for you’ being an effective MP in the Sierra Leone Parliament organised by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD). All the costs (flights £2558.50, accommodation £190, internal travel £28 and subsistence £130) for this visit were met by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, Artillery House, 11-19 Artillery Row, London SW1P 1RT. On 19 March 2008 I received an additional payment from the Westminster Foundation for Democracy of £255.40 which is reimbursement of £245 for vaccinations and £10.40 for passport visa costs. Between 8 and 12 June 2008 I attended an International Parliamentary Governance Seminar organised by the UK Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) on behalf of the Scottish Parliament Branch of the CPA. The seminar took place in London, Brussels and Belfast. Travel costs to London and back from Belfast were met by the Scotland Branch (£150). All other costs, which totalled £1051, were met by the UK Branch of the CPA (Westminster Hall, Houses of Parliament, London, SW1A 0AA). These costs include hotel accommodation (£165) and meals (£40) in London (8 and 9 June), travel on 10 June from London to Brussels on Eurostar (£213), Brussels accommodation (£145) and meals (£80); flight on 11 June from Brussels to Belfast (£248) and Belfast accommodation (£105) and meals (£55). Between 29 June and 3 July 2008 I visited Sierra Leone as one of four cross party UK Parliamentarians who led a follow-up workshop for MPs in the Sierra Leone Parliament, organised by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD). The visit also included a number of meetings and visits to projects in Sierra Leone. All the costs (flights £1,729, Sierra Leone hotel accommodation £137 and internal travel £32, travel insurance £59.78, entry visa and processing fee £164, subsistence £130) were met by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, Artillery House, 11 – 19 Artillery Row, London SW1P 1RT. The costs of my prescription for anti-malarial tablets (£54.07) and postage for my entry visa (£10.30) were also met by the WFD. [Registered 5 July 2008, Amended interest 6 August 2008]
