As a member of the Scottish Parliament’s football team, I played in an inter-Parliamentary tournament in support of the Community Shield in London on 4 and 5 August 2007. The event was sponsored by McDonalds and the accommodation and hospitality totalled approximately £555. I also received a gift of 6 Community Shield tickets: 2 tickets (value approximately £150) were passed onto local organisations with 2 tickets returned to the event organisers and 2 tickets destroyed unused, by my assistant. The total value of this gift is between £501 and £1,001. [Registered 15 August 2007, Amended interest 7 September 2007].

On 16 May 2007, I received hospitality from Scottish Power to attend the UEFA Cup final. This hospitality included a ticket, a meal transport and a commemorative gift of whisky and is valued at less than £520.

I received a small painting from a constituent, to hang in my constituency office. The value of the gift is less than £520.

I am member of the Association of Electoral Administrators.

I am a member of the trade union, UNISON. In June 2007 I resigned from UNISON and therefore this is a ceased interest. [Registered 5 June 2007, Amended interest 11 March 2008, Ceased interest 11 March 2008]

On 17 November 2007 I attended the Scotland v Italy Football match at Hampden as a guest of McDonalds PLC. The value of the ticket, a small gift of a clock and lunch was £293.75 (including VAT). [Registered 20 November 2007]

On 31 January 2008 I attended the Grassroots Awards dinner, hosted by the Scottish Football Association, as a guest of McDonalds. The value of the dinner was estimated by McDonalds to be £80. [Registered 27 February 2008]

On 23 April 2008 I accepted an invitation to join the Board of the Scottish Schools Equipment Research Centre (a non-profit body) as a member. I do not receive any remuneration, expenses or benefit in kind as result of my membership of the Board. [Registered 24 April 2008]

I was nominated by the Scottish Parliament to the European Committee of the Regions and this was ratified by the European Council in April 2008. This position is not remunerated, although I expect to receive payment from the Committee of the Regions, for travel and subsistence for attending meetings in Brussels of the Committee of the Regions, its related Commissions and other related activities. I anticipate that this reimbursement of expenses would amount to between £10,001 and £15,000 per annum. I intend to seek SPCB approval in advance for overseas visits in relation to my work with the Committee of the Regions. I will consider registration on a case by case basis for any overseas trip not covered by this arrangement. [Registered 8 May 2008]

On 11 June 2008 I received a small selection of dairy products (milk and butter etc) from Graham’s Dairies of Bridge of Allan, following an Open Day event at their farm in Bridge of Allan. I estimate the value of these gifts to be approximately £10. [Registered 18 June 2008]

On 11 June 2008 I received gifts of a bottle of whisky and a paperweight from the Friends of Logie Kirk after speaking at an event on 11 June 2008 organised by the Friends. I estimate the value of these gifts to be approximately £30. [Registered 18 June 2008]

On 25 June 2008 I received a bottle of whisky from staff and students of Beaconhurst School. The whisky is valued at approximately £30. [Registered 27 June 2008]

On 30 August 2008 I attended the Johnnie Walker Golf Tournament at Gleneagles at the invitation of Diageo. The costs of the hospitality and day tickets for myself and a guest were £240 each (therefore £480 in total) and were met by Diageo. [Registered 23 September 2008]
