Issues raised by pupils at the opening ceremony included the environment, human rights, education, and opportunities for young people to live and work throughout the European Union.

The opening ceremony took place in the Parliament's Garden Lobby. Schools taking part in the Forum were:
Bell Baxter High School, Earlston High School, Greenock Academy, Holyrood Secondary School, Linlithgow Academy, Mintlaw Academy, Nairn Academy and Strathaven Academy.
