European and External Relations
The remit of the committee is to consider and
report on-
(a) proposals for European Communities legislation;
(b) the implementation of European Communities legislation;
(c) any European Communities or European Union issue;
(d) the development and implementation of the Scottish Administration's links with countries and territories outside Scotland, the European Communities (and their institutions) and other international organisations; and
(e) co-ordination of the international activities of the Scottish Administration.

Current Business

At its meeting on 27 November 2007, the Committee agreed to undertake a number of evidence sessions to inform its consideration of the Scottish Government's international strategy. The Committee took evidence from stakeholders involved with the existing strategy at its meeting on 22 January; the Scottish Government Counsellor for North America on 5 February; and the First Secretary, Scottish Affairs in China on 4 March 2008. The Minister presented the Scottish Government’s new international strategy at the Committee’s meeting on 29 April.
